Russell Museum of Medical History & Innovation at MGH
The Paul S. Russell, MD Museum of Medical History and Innovation explores the evolution of health care and medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital. Exhibits and programs allow visitors to follow the history of research, patient care and medical discovery across three centuries. Appropriate for high school and up.
The museum offers a glimpse into the MGH’s rich history of accomplishment and showcases a broad range of medical topics, from stunning research in the lab to delivering care near and far to supporting patients and families to new strategies in educating health care professionals.
Interactive media displays and spectacular images enable visitors to engage with the exhibits as they trace medical progress through two centuries. The museum also features a wide range of old and new medical instruments, prototype devices, fascinating artifacts and unusual objects that collectively help tell the story of medicine at MGH and beyond.
The Rooftop Garden
One of the most distinctive features of the Russell Museum is its rooftop garden, a special open-air retreat that offers sweeping views of the Beacon Hill neighborhood and the State House dome.
