At the Green Briar Nature Center, you will find a quiet corner of Cape Cod - a sanctuary of peace and beauty in all seasons. Located on the shores of Smiling Pool and adjacent to the famous Briar Patch of Thornton Burgess’s stories, Green Briar offers interpreted nature trails and a spectacular wild flower garden.Classes & Programs
Green Briar offers year-round natural history programs for children and adults and include story times, classes, field trips, guided walks, and workshops on the natural sciences. Check the website frequently --there's somethign for everyone!
Outreach programs to area schools and other institutions are also an important part of Green Briar’s services to the community. Members of the education staff visit schools, nursing homes and clubs offering slide presentations, lectures and classes.
Birthday Parties at Green Briar
Have a fun and educational birthday party at Green Briar. Choose from live animals, fairy houses, jam or candy making, canoeing, 'arty' party, and more! We provide a one to two hour program with a naturalist with an additional hour allowed for 'party' time. You provide all the party-related food and items. Fees vary with the program selected and are based on 10 participants. Additional fees are charged for additional participants. Parties are scheduled through the Education Department by calling 508-888-6870.
The Facility
Green Briar is also home to the Robert S. Swain Natural History Library, which has a collection of books, periodicals and other materials on the natural history of the Northeast, particularly the eastern Massachusetts region. Books are available for reference or loan to members of the Society.
Adjacent to Green Briar is the 57-acre Briar Patch Conservation Area, home of Peter Rabbit and many of the other Thornton Burgess animal characters. Walking trails are open to the public.

From Boston: Approximately 65 miles (1 1/4 hours). Take the Southeast expressway (Route 93 South) to Route 3 South. Follow to the Sagamore Bridge. Cross the Sagamore Bridge to Route 6 East. Follow Route 6 East for approximately 5 minutes to Exit 2 (Sandwich/Route 130). Turn left on Route 130. Continue on Route 130 for about 1 mile. The Thornton Burgess Museum will be on your left.
