Category: | Theaters |
The mission of the Theater in the Open is to transform the magical tradition of storytelling into theater. Using puppetry, pageantry, music, movement, and acting, we present and explore myths, classic literature, original scripts, and modern dramas that reflect the diversity of cultures around us.
The theater's home is the Coachman Property at Maudslay State Park in Newburyport, Massachusetts. This beautiful four-acre parcel of land is set on the west side of Maudslay State Park. All plays will be centralized on the Coachman Property or the adjacent fields on the west side of the park making productions easy to find.
For your convenience there are bathroom facilities within walking distance of all of our plays. Because of the generous donation of a van, rides are offered from the parking lot to play sites for elderly and physically challenged audience members. Please call ahead to 978-465-2572 if you will need a ride to the play site.
