Since 1963, Boston Ballet has been one of the leading dance companies in the world on stage, in the studio and in the community. Under the leadership of Artistic Director Mikko Nissinen and Executive Director Barry Hughson, the Company maintains an internationally acclaimed repertoire and the largest ballet school in North America, Boston Ballet School.
In the Children's Division, Rhythm and Movement classes begin at age 3. These small classes stress coordination, listening, and music awareness. At four years, children take Creative Dance. In Pre-Ballet I&II, five and six-year olds begin their formal ballet study.
At age 7, Primary Ballet classes teach the fundamentals of ballet in preparation for continued study at the school.
Beginning at age 8 and continuing through young adulthood, dancers move onto the Classical Dance program. At this point in their training, dancers move through Elementary, Intermediate, and Advanced levels. Progression is based on progress, not age. The program becomes more individualized and varies according to each student's level of commitment.

The Nutcracker, Grade 4 Student
I have been taking classes at the Marblehead Studio since I was four (now I'm 9). Students of the Boston Ballet School can audition for the Boston Ballet Nutcracker. This year I auditioned and got to perform as an Urchin in the show! It was an amazingly fun experience! My favorite parts were wearing the cool costumes, seeing backstage, and performing on stage. If you have a chance to go to a Boston Ballet school I think you should go. Then you can try out for the Nutcracker too! It's awesome!
