Join us for a very special gorilla birthday party! Be sure to visit the Tropical Forest this Sunday to help Kiki and her daughter, Kira, celebrate their August birthdays together during a special joint party (Kira’s 11th birthday was August 8 and Kiki’s 29th birthday was August 23). The indoor gorilla exhibit will be festively decorated and all of the gorillas will enjoy treats made especially for them. Come stop by and wish Kiki and Kira a “Happy Birthday!”

In addition to the gorillas’ birthday party, Franklin Park Zoo will showcase a variety of animal enrichment activities throughout the day, made possible by Yellowbook, Zoo New England’s 2010 Enrichment Sponsor. The zoo’s enrichment program encourages the animals to use their natural abilities and behaviors to interact with their environment.

The gorillas will go on exhibit at 10:30 a.m. This is the best time to see the exhibit decorated and to take photos.

Enrichment Day Activities:

10:00 a.m.: The tigers, bongos and camels will receive ice treats

11:30 a.m.: The southern ground hornbills will receive paper mache balls filled with insects

1:00 p.m.: The keas will receive paper mache items filled with food

2:00 p.m.: Christopher the lion will receive a paper mache beach ball filled with meat

3:00 p.m.: The goats, sheep and chickens in Franklin Farm will receive ice treats
