Junior Gardeners – Summer with the Chickens
Meets Tue-Wed-Thr, 3:30-4:30pm Three sessions:
1: July 9-11: Chickens’ Summer Jungle Gym – work with your team to design, build and install a summer jungle gym for the chickens at the Science Center.
Meet the chickens and discover what they like to do to stay cool in the summer heat and incorporate that information into your project.
2: July 23-25: Birds of a Feather – Feathers help birds to stay warm and blend in, but chickens take fancy feathering to a whole new level!
Discover chickens with beards, feathered feet and funky “hair-dos”.
We’ll explore how feather “make the bird” and test feathers to find out just how important they are to the animal’s survival.
3: August 13-15: Eggs Galore – How many eggs can a chicken lay?
Why are some eggs blue?
What is the difference between a chicken egg and a turtle egg?
Learn how chickens lay eggs and help with the daily collection, then we’ll try our hands at some egg science and art, and make a tasty cooking project.
Each three class session is $24 for members/ $33 for non-members.
