Endangered Species Day at Stone Zoo
In honor of Endangered Species Day, be sure to visit on May 17 to learn more about these incredible animals.
Stone Zoo has partnered with National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries to present an engaging day designed for visitors of all ages to learn more about endangered species and ways that they can help protect these animals as well as their habitats.
NOAA Fisheries will be bringing life-size inflatable replicas of animals including a right whale calf, a leatherback turtle and a 10-foot long Atlantic sturgeon.
Additionally, there will be engaging activities and games for children to play.
Throughout the day, there will also be opportunities to meet with the zookeepers and ask questions during scheduled zookeeper encounters.
Be sure to enter the Endangered Species Day Coloring and Writing Contest!
Through May 10, children aged three to 10 are invited to enter the 5th Annual Endangered Species Day Coloring and Writing Contest at Stone Zoo!
Draw a picture of your favorite endangered species or write a short piece about the animals, detailing why they are endangered or what you can do to help.
Entries will be accepted through May 10.
The winners of each age group will be contacted and announced on Saturday, May 17, and will receive a certificate of recognition and the honor of having their work framed and displayed in the Animal Discovery Center.
