Global March for Elephants & Rhinos
People around the world will march as one on Saturday October 4th to end the elephant and rhino holocaust.
People will join voices in major cities around the globe to end the killing, ban the sale of ivory and rhino horn and ask Asia to shut its carving factories which fuels the demand.
Owning ivory is a symbol of cruelty, slaughter and a baby left to die, not a symbol of status as some Chinese may imagine.
The march asks governments to stop criminal gangs with helicopters, assault rifles and rocket propelled grenades from butchering elephants and rhinos.
Wildlife crime has become a multibillion-dollar business which finances illegal arms for terrorist groups.
Last year more than 35,000 elephants were turned into trinkets, one every fifteen minutes.
A rhino is killed for its horn every 10 hours.
Thousands of rangers who protect wildlife have lost their lives in the elephant and rhino wars which are an ecological and moral disaster.
As history looks over our shoulder, the elephant and rhino genocide is a symbol of civilization gone awry.
As elephants and rhinos are pushed to extinction by human greed, they are miner’s canaries sending out alarms about the treatment of other species with whom we share the same breathing earth.
The lives in the balance are not just those we push to catastrophic extinction but our own.
As Edmund Burke said, “All that’s needed for the forces of evil to prevail is for good people to do nothing.”
You can do something to help these majestic animals.
Come to the Boston Common on October 4th and add your voice to other voices around the world.
