Fifteen percent of the sales proceeds from Spatial Rhythms artwork will be donated to Mass Audubon (www.massaudubon.org), a nonprofit that works to protect the nature of Massachusetts for people and wildlife.
Though their subjects vary greatly, all of the images selected for Spatial Rhythms are bold of line and assertive of space. Dreyer's 'Feather' series (four of which are included in Rhythms) portray ordinary plumes dramatically lit, rich in motion and revelatory in grace. Intricate fractals dominate his botanical photograms 'Oak Leaf' and 'Seaweed'. When Dreyer bridges his abstract and representative sensibilities, as he does in the architectural studies 'Edgartown Roof' and 'Vincent House, Reverse-Reflex,' he waxes surrealistic and, at times, positively Escherian. The fact that Dreyer eschews digital reworking makes his images all the more remarkable.
Peter Dreyer began his photographic career as a student in Germany. As an adult living in the United States, Dreyer progressively furthered his art as a photographer in a corporate film department, an audio-visual freelancer, and ultimately as the founder of his own studio. 'I specialize in black-&-white, large-format photography,' Dreyer explains, adding 'I use black-&-white film and a wet darkroom.' His work has been featured in shows at Bromfield Gallery and Eclipse Gallery (both in Boston) and in several galleries on Martha's Vineyard. He has published two picture books, Nantucket in Color and Boston in Color, both via Hastings House, New York.
