The Spellman Museum of Stamps & Postal History is holding its annual Celebrate Winter Family Day on Saturday, Jan 24 from noon to 4:00.
This year, children who come wearing mittens or earmuffs will receive a special stamp prize.
The Museum’s community room will have arts and crafts activities for children and adults using real stamps plus stamp games and puzzles to play and win stamp prizes.
Children can create winter stamp mosaics of snowflakes, snowballs and snowmen using stamps and also design their own winter stamps to display.
Everyone will get instructions about how to create personal envelopes and cards about the winter to send to friends.
The Museum will pay the postage.
The afternoon will also allow everyone to get a jump on Valentine’s Day by making gifts and cards using United States Love Stamps from all different years.
Again, the Museum will supply the postage.
All children can also make their own collection of stamps with winter themes plus receive a free packet of stamps, a pamphlet about how to start a stamp collection and can have their photograph made into a stamp.
In recognition of Black History Month, the Museum will have a display of African-Americans on stamps and a free 36 page booklet from the US Post Office featuring many of these stamps will be available.
