Zoo’s Summer Art Contest Kicks-off with Day of Fun for Young Picassos
Little Joe and Okie, two of Franklin Park Zoo’s western lowland gorillas, are avid finger painters. Working with their keepers, finger painting is a part of the Zoo’s enrichment program designed to keep the gorillas intellectually stimulated. Their work will be displayed in the classroom at the Tropical Forest throughout the summer in an exhibition entitled “Okie & Little Joe: A Retrospective.”
From June 24 – Spetmeber 15, kids will be invited to submit their best finger painting masterpiece, either created at home or at one of the Zoo’s free finger painting afternoons. Winners will be selected by a panel of esteemed art experts in mid-August, and will receive a painting by Okie, as well as a special Behind-the-Scenes tour of the Zoo.
Zoo staff will be on hand to accept entries on Finger Painting Days held at the Zoo. Entries created at home can be mailed up until August 10 to: FPZ Summer Art Contest, Franklin Park Zoo, One Franklin Park Road, Boston, MA 02121.
Finger Painting Sundays will take place on: June 24, July 8, July 22, August 5, August 19, from 11:00am - 1:00pm.
Little Joe & Okie: A Retrospective is open every day during Zoo hours, except during private events in the Tropical Forest Classroom at Franklin Park Zoo.
