It is the only quilt guild throughout New England that celebrates and preserves the art, history, culture, and traditions of African American quilts.
Their first meeting took place in the Old Randolph Town Hall; Randolph MA.
SISJBTC currently meet at Saint John's Episcopal Church in Arlington, MA on the third Saturday of each month, where they celebrate their love of cloth and textiles and share ideas and techniques as they piece together their heritage in quilts.
SISJBTC will be hosting a Make & Take workshop where attendees can create their own fabric postcards at the Janet & William Ellery James Center at the Cape Ann Museum Green on Sunday, July 24.
This hands-on event is presented in conjunction with In Her Mind’s Eye: Doris Elizabeth Prouty, an exhibition of quilts designed and sewn by Gloucester resident and self-taught African American quilter, Doris Elizabeth Prouty.
