The Higgins Armory Sword Guild demonstrates the elegant art of rapier fencing, as described in The Princess Bride. Internationally recognized swordsman and fencing historian Dr. Kenneth Mondschein demonstrates. Dr. Jeffrey L. Forgeng, whose book Daily Life in Elizabethan England has just appeared in a second edition, will sign copies of his book.

More than 400 years after the publication of Camillo Agrippa’s Treatise on the Science of Arms, the Renaissance Italian master’s work can now be read in English, thanks to a translation recently published by the Higgins Armory Sword Guild’s Dr. Kenneth Mondschein, a world-renown fencing instructor. Dr. Mondschein signs his new book and is joined by Dr. Jeffrey L. Forgeng and Dr. William R. Short. Dr. Forgeng's highly successful Daily Life in Elizabethan England has just appeared in a second edition and Dr. Short has recently published Viking Weapons and Combat Techniques. All books are available in the Museum Store.
Rapier Fencing!

Swashbuckling and dueling highlight this one-hour hands-on workshop about the sophisticated, elegant martial art of the Renaissance gentleman, taught by Dr. Kenneth Mondschein. Cost: $10. Weapons in Shakespeare's World

Shakespeare's plays bring to life a world of rapiers, Renaissance, and romance. Higgins Curator Dr. Jeffrey L. Forgeng presents a close-up look at weapons featured in Shakespeare's world -- how they worked, and what they meant to the people who carried them. Forgeng also autographs the recently-released 2nd edition of his book 'Daily Life in Elizabethan England.'
