The performance on Saturday, April 2nd will be interpreted into American Sign Language (ASL). “Once On This Island” is a highly original Caribbean adaptation of the popular fairy tale “The Little Mermaid.” Set on a Caribbean island ruled by fantastical gods, “Once On This Island” tells the story of Ti Moune, a peasant girl who rescues and falls in love with Daniel, a wealthy boy from the other side of her island.

After Daniel returns to his people Ti Moune is sent on a quest by the gods to test the strength of her love against the powerful forces of prejudice and hatred. With book and lyrics by Lynn Aherns and Stephen Flaherty, “Once On This Island” garnered eight Tony nominations for its Broadway run, including Best Musical, Book and Score.

Open Door Theater of Acton is a non-profit family-oriented community theater company that has been creating learning experiences through theater for adults, children, and people with special needs since it was founded in 1980.
