The High Hopes Fund generates critical resources to support Joslin’s multi-dimensional efforts to discover, create and distribute new knowledge about diabetes prevention and treatment—expanding worldwide efforts to combat this disease. All monies raised for the fund directly support the most critical needs of Joslin's clinical, research and educational programs.
A board-certified endocrinologist, Dr. Quickel was President and CEO of the Joslin Diabetes Center from 1987-2000 and from 2009-2010. During his tenure, Joslin expanded its clinical and research programs nationwide, while building its endowment to more than $65 million. The Center also expanded in the Boston area, completing a $25 million clinical and research addition to its headquarters building, and establishing partnerships with leading healthcare providers.
Dr. Quickel was also responsible for the High Hopes Fund’s name, which is taken from the popular song, “High Hopes,” the lyrics of which were written by Sammy Cahn. Dr. Quickel was so determined to use the name of this inspirational song for the fund that he personally travelled to California to visit Mr. Cahn at his home and obtained permission from the legendary songwriter.
“Dr. Quickel has been a truly vital and instrumental part of the Joslin Evening at Pops since its inception,” said Joslin Diabetes Center President and CEO John L. Brooks III. “His dedication and devotion to the Joslin’s threefold mission of providing clinical care and education to patients and their families; supporting research initiatives in type 1 and type 2 diabetes; and offering training and fellowship opportunities for future endocrinologists, has been unprecedented.”
Showcasing one of the greatest contemporary voices of our time, Linda Eder’s diverse repertoire spans Broadway, standards, pop, country and jazz. Linda has performed at many prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall, The Kennedy Center, Davies Hall, Radio City Music Hall, Wolftrap and the Ravinia Festival. Always touring in good company, Eder’s collaborations include Oscar-winning composer pianist Marvin Hamlisch, Tony-winner Michael Feinstein and Keith Lockhart, conductor of the Boston Pops Orchestra.
