During this informative program, Florence, a spinner and weaver for more than 30 years, will discuss the antique spinning wheel collection and textile processing objects preserved at the Andover Historical Society.
Florence Feldman-Wood researches various aspects of old spinning wheels, such as structure and history for her quarterly newsletter. She had the unique opportunity to study, in depth, the spinning wheels at the American Textile History Museum, in Lowell, MA, which has the largest collection of spinning wheels in the United States. Universally used before the industrial age, the variations in spinning wheels are endless. Learn about wheel structures, uses, and variations throughout Andover's history. Additional information about Florence Feldman-Wood and The Spinning Wheel Sleuth can be found at her website, www.spwhsl.com.
The Andover Historical Society tells the unique stories of Andover in order to foster a strong community that knows its history, values what it inherits, and takes pride in what it passes on to future generations. The Society offers a variety of educational programs to individuals and groups of all ages. For further information about Treasures in the Attic call 978-475-2236; or visit www.andoverhistorical.org.
