On Friday March 30th, make a pilgrimage to Beacon Hill for Shabbat HaGadol, the Great Sabbath, honoring our collective memory and envisioning a dynamic future.
Shabbat HaGadol, the Shabbat before Passover, is traditionally observed as a moment of anticipation as the people prepare to leave Egypt’s bondage. Join us at this significant moment as we re-imagine Jewish liturgy, discourse, and politics, creating a unique and relevant new tradition.
The evening will feature uplifting song, dancing in the aisles, inspired vegetarian kosher cuisine, and will be led by young, creative leaders of the Boston Jewish community. Services will be facilitated by Maxwell Levis, a doctorol psychology student, Torah scholar, farmer, and innkeeper with roots in Vermont, Boston, and Israel.
The Vilna Shul, the last remaining immigrant synagogue in Boston, is a spiritual home that respects the traditions of our religion, but provides open access to all. We want to take this opportunity to welcome wider Boston to imagine new directions for our congregation and community. This program is sponsored in part by an Innovative Programs Grant from Combined Jewish Philanthropies.
