Davis was one of hundreds of performers who traveled the country in that time period, entertaining families in private homes and in public.
“Family Day” will have two shows, 1:00 pm and 2:30 pm, kicking off the townwide “Susan B. Anthony Days.” The cost is $4 per person; age 3 and under are admitted free. This program is supported in part by a grant from the Northern Berkshire Cultural Council, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
In this program, adults and children will participate in the magic of the Victorian era and acquire a better understanding of and excitement for history. Before and after shows, families will have the opportunity to view, in the yard and garden, the new life-size figures of Anthony as a child and tour her childhood home. Refreshments will be provided.
The Susan B. Anthony Birthplace Museum is a Federal-style house, on the National Registry of Historic Places. Anthony was born in the house, built by her father, in 1820. The house was bought in 2006, restored and opened in the spring of 2010 as a museum.
To date, the Birthplace has had nearly 4,000 visitors and runs a successful event series, with local and national authors and human rights activists. For more information, visit www.susanbanthonybirthplace.com or call 413-743-7121.
