In celebration of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA)’s new Benin Kingdom Gallery, the Museum will host a free evening of artmaking activities and gallery talks on Wednesday, September 25 from 5 to 9:45 pm.
Barbara Martin, Alfond Curator of Education, will lead in-gallery talks at 6:30, 7 and 7:30 pm, highlighting rare works of art from the Benin Kingdom.
The gallery also will feature an interactive focused on the bronzes from the Benin Kingdom, providing visitors with a new way of seeing Benin art.
In the Druker Family Pavilion at 6:45 and 7:45 pm, MFA Objects Conservator Susanne Gänsicke will present the ancient technique of bronze casting and the methods of conservation.
Families can participate in artmaking activities by creating foil pendants inspired works of art from the African kingdom of Benin on display in the new gallery.
Finally, visitors can learn tips and ideas from artists while sketching throughout the Museum.
The renovation of this gallery was made possible with support from the Robert Lehman Foundation and the Vance Wall Foundation.
