A turbulent and captivating personal narrative winds through works detailing life growing up African-American in the rural South, time spent on a chain gang, and the artist’s involvement with the Civil Rights Movement.
Rembert’s lyrical use of form and color, meticulous geometric patterning, and distinctive use of material read like unsettling yet mesmerizing history paintings.
