Murphy will appear as part of the Arsenal Center’s free text & conText series which explores the creative process.
In April, Watertown Children’s Theatre is presenting the Boston premiere of the show based on Murphy’s books.
The Main Street Kids’ Club: A MathStart Musical features book/lyrics by Scott Ferguson and music/lyrics by Michael Mahler.
Murphy will work with the college-age cast during the rehearsal process.
The show teaches math skills to elementary and middle school audiences through performance, showing the fundamental connections between math, music, and art.
The musical solves math problems, demonstrates the presence of math in our daily lives, and makes reading and math fun.
Murphy is the author of the MathStart books, which use visual learning strategies to teach mathematical concepts, and the I See I Learn series, which focuses on Social, Emotional, Health & Safety and Cognitive skills.
The free text & conText series brings creative artists and audience together in an open forum setting to discuss craft and the creative process.
