The Artrageous silent auction is part of The Umbrella’s annual Artrageous gala fundraiser and features works by artists at The Umbrella and local artists, along with a selection of cultural, sports, and dining experiences.
This year, the auction will be displayed as a gallery exhibition in The Umbrella’s Arts Gallery, and visitors at May’s First Thursdays event will have a unique opportunity to preview the items before the evening of the gala.
At the same time, several of the artists throughout The Umbrella’s three-story building will open their doors for visitors to stop by, chat about their artwork, and even see it being made.
Artwork in the Artrageous auction and exhibition created by Umbrella artists participating in First Thursdays will be specially marked, and attendees are encouraged to visit them in their studios.
May’s First Thursdays event is also part of ArtWeek Boston, and special tours will be offered from 6:30 – 7:30 pm.
These tours will explore the full story behind The Umbrella’s building, which opened as a high school in 1929.
ArtWeek Boston is a bi-annual, 10-day celebration of Greater Boston’s creativity, produced by Citi Performing Arts Center and presented by Highland Street Foundation.
