Join us in welcoming our guest artists, Steve and Ako, who will perform the Shishimai lion dance in the Japanese House. Their Shishimai dance is in the style of Tokyo’s Edo Daikagura Group, with a history that traces back to the Edo period, around the 17th Century.
This program is hosted in collaboration with the Japan Society of Boston,
Note: Space is limited on a first-come, first-served basis in the Japanese House, an authentic 140-year-old house from Kyoto. Children must be accompanied by adults at all times.
Shishimai, the lion dance, is performed in Japan for the New Year’s to ward off evil and for good luck.
