The Minstrels, a 100-member group of volunteer singers and musicians founded by Tim and Jane McHale, perform interactive popular music and play nearly 70 “songfest” gigs a year at local homeless shelters, senior centers, and MCI-Middlesex, inviting participants up onto the stage to lead songs with a dozen Minstrels providing instrumental support and harmony or providing audience members with shakers, drums and tambourines to join in.
The motto of the Boston Minstrels is “making music with heart” and their “songfests” allow residents to exhibit their talents and find a sense of peace and joy through music.
This year, The Boston Minstrels will serve those residing at seventeen different venues in the Greater Boston area, assisting the homeless, the incarcerated and the frail, providing a therapeutic and engaging atmosphere and a chance to bridge the gap between despair and hope.
