Yankele Levy was a prolific choreographer who passed away last year, leaving a legacy of hundreds of widely known dances.
Eyal Ozeri, a very well known Israeli choreographer, will be returning to the Boston Area to led a night full of nostalgic dancing, great music, and celebrating with friends.
Eyal will lead dances created by Yankele Levy, by himself, and by many other choreographers.
With great thanks to Northeastern Hillel, we are able to host this event in a large ballroom with nice wooden floors conducive to nonstop dancing.
Also thank you to all our volunteers and partners for making this event possible.
Israeli folk dancing development occurred at the first festival in 1944 held at Kibbutz Dalia, with the realization that no indigenous dances, music and costumes existed which reflected the life of a people returning to its own land.
This multifaceted folk dance genre, characterized by a combination of styles and sources, incorporates themes from the Arab debka, North American jazz, Latin American rhythms, and others to the beat typical of many Mediterranean countries.
Israeli Folk Dancing has now flourished all over the world and has been practiced by a wide range of cultures.
We are thrilled to continue bringing Israeli Folk Dancing to the Greater Boston Community.
Requests for your favorite dances and songs are welcomed.
Feel free to bring your friends and share this event with others!
