Program for Grades K-8

This summer, we will be making art from stories and telling stories about art.

Children will enjoy experimenting with a wide variety of materials, creating sculptures, drawings, paintings, and other artwork as they explore the relationship between pictures and words, images and stories.

Each week will bring a new set of ideas to spark imaginations as children are immersed in learning important skills and concepts related to the wonderful world of art.

Students in Grades K-5 will be inspired by clever weekly themes, such as “It’s a Mystery” and “Intergalactic,” learning about color, value, shape, texture and line- the foundations of art-and will go home with a portfolio of amazing artwork.

Students in Grades 6-8 will enjoy classes designed around specific artistic materials and methods, developing skills and concepts- and will also go home with an impressive portfolio.

Summer Arts for Grades K-8 At-A-Glance

•Full-day programs provide six hours of daily art instruction taught by highly qualified, professional artists and art educators.

•All students will tour Danforth Art Museum Exhibitions each week.

•Children entering or emerging from grades K-5 will be considering “What’s the Story?” inspired by weekly themes focused on fun topics from children’s literature.

•Children entering or emerging from grades 6-8 enjoy classes designed around artists’ materials and methods.

•Each child goes home with a portfolio of amazing artwork that reflects their developing understanding of the foundations of art and their budding creative voice.

•We hold a Student Exhibition every Friday to celebrate the children’s work.

•Optional Extended Day morning (8-9 am) and afternoon (4:30-6 pm) sessions available.

•Convenient curb-side drop-off and pick-up make summer scheduling a breeze.

• Students will once again enjoy our large, bright, air-conditioned studios with daily breaks outside the studios for creative challenges and collaborative play.

•Selected student work will be exhibited at the Framingham Public Library in Fall 2019.

Program for Grades 9-12

Classes offered in Summer Arts:Teens are for all high school students who wish to explore art concepts, materials, and techniques in a focused art school environment, or those who are developing their college application portfolios.

Our three-hour classes allow for concentrated study, and are taught by working artists and college instructors.

In these high-quality enrichment courses, students will create works that demonstrate their technical skill as well as their creativity.

We offer a flexible schedule for half-day classes or full-day immersion, and have added a Fashion Design component and a Portfolio Review class to the schedule with the benefit of access to the Framingham State University Art Department faculty.
