Primary among her destinations are the waterfronts of Stonington, Islesford, Friendship, Camden and Port Clyde in Maine, and Manchester by the Sea, Essex, Rockport, Gloucester and Cape Cod in Massachusetts.
Closer to home, you will find some from her own Georgetown Rock Pond backyard.
These paintings have their beginnings in multiple trips the artist took to Maine, as well as painting and photography sessions at local working waterfronts.
Lynne has found that this landscape draws her strongly, partly because of the stories of human work and community interaction suggested in the buildings, trucks, buoys, ropes and traps of the working waterfront.
The Essex Shipbuilding Museum, in particular, adds a historical note because of the thousands of wooden schooners built and launched in Esssex over more than 300 years.
The Cox Reservation and Rock Pond paintings add the element of pure natural beauty to the ongoing story, and each other location has its own narrative to add.
It is the artist’s hope that her work will honor the labors of the fishermen and women, the shipbuilders, and those who foresaw the need to preserve the beauty and natural health of our coasts and waters.
