Originally from France, the artist use Paris as subject and inspiration, borrowing it, manipulating it, and reimagining it to create mixed media paintings where each represents a different story related to Paris’ life and its people or personal stories from the artist’s life.
In this exhibit, Sandrine defines the word “Story” in multiple ways.
“Story” is defined in the dictionary in two ways: an account of imaginary or real people and events told for entertainment or an account of past events in someone's life or in the evolution of something.
Sandrine is adding a third way to these definitions: an account of one’s emotional journey.
Sandrine always imagined herself as a teller of “stories” except images, landscapes, flowers, sculptures, paintings, and other ways of expressing herself as an artist using colors, materials and textures, some words, are her ways of telling stories.
What a better inspiration to tell stories than Paris, France!
Paris, city of light, city of dreams, city of fashion, city of love, city of artists, city of writers … There are so many ways to describe Paris ...
“There are only two places in the world where we can live happy: at home and in Paris.” Ernest Hemingway
“Paris is the greatest temple ever built to material joys and the lust of the eyes.” Henry James
“When good Americans die, they go to Paris.” Oscar Wilde
“At last, I have come into a dreamland.” Harriet Beecher Stowe
In Paris Stories, Sandrine is addressing many different stories related to Paris in more than one way.
Most of the pieces presented in this exhibit have a story to tell.
Some for the viewer to find on their own, some more guided through Sandrine’s brush or the theme of the piece.
Find your own or let Sandrine tell you the story she sees in each piece.
