Join the New England Aquarium as it celebrates the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. during our Arts, Living Histories, and the Beloved Community evening.

In partnership with the Forum for Racial Equity in Hyde Park, the Aquarium is honored to commemorate the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., centering his dream of the “Beloved Community,” which The King Center describes as “a global vision, in which all people can share in the wealth of the earth,” and where hunger, poverty, and homelessness “will not be tolerated because international standards of human decency will not allow it.”

The free event will showcase an exhibit titled “Living Histories of Color,” featuring portraits of local Boston leaders and artists of color who are building the Beloved Community in their work.

The evening will also include a screening of Humanité, The Beloved Community, a documentary featuring award-winning jazz artist Kirk Whalum, who, with other musicians, reflects on the ethos of the Civil Rights movement and the embodiment of Dr. King's Beloved Community in the Arts.

The event will include reflections on how artists and the arts play a role in building the Beloved Community.
