Or that Haiti's heroes inspired American freedom fighters like Frederick Douglass?
Or that a Haitian man founded the city of Chicago?
Yes, really!
Join us to celebrate Haiti's people, culture, and history with Rise Up!/ Leve!: Celebrating the Haitian Revolution of 1804.
Through music, stories, and craft-making, we will kick off the countdown to one of Haiti's biggest national holidays -- Haitian Flag Day on May 18 -- and explore the slave revolt that defeated Europe's most powerful armies.
Kids will make Haitian Hero Shields adorned with the colors of the Haitian flag and featuring of the revolution's most famous faces: Dessalines, L'Ouverture, Belair and Flon.
