What: Auditions for Dance Prism’s 2011 Touring Nutcracker Ballet Cast
When: Sunday, Sept. 11, 2011
Where: Dance Prism Rehearsal Studio, 50 Beharrell Street, West Concord MA
For Whom: Dancers who are seriously interested in being considered for the Touring Cast should attend this audition rather than the regional cast auditions. Touring Cast members perform at all performances.
Audition Times:
10:00 am – Level I: Ballet Students – girls & boys ages 7-9
11:00 am -- Level II: Ballet Students – girls & boys ages 9-12, and all students under 5' tall
12:30 pm -- Level III: Intermediate Ballet Students – females and males 12 years old and older over 5” tall (advanced dancers should be prepared to stay for Level IV if requested)
1:30 pm -- Level IV: (Only by invitation from Level III audition) Advanced female and male dancers. Pointe for women, partnering for men. (Please do not attend Level IV only)
Audition Information: Auditions are open to trained dancers age 7 through professional adults. There are No Fees to audition, for costumes, or for performances. No studio affiliation is required.
Touring Cast Rehearsals: The Touring Cast dancers rehearse at the Dance Prism’s rehearsal studio in West Concord on weekends.
Touring Schedule: The Nutcracker Touring Cast does approximately 11 performances in 5 cities during November and December. Expect 1-2 hr weekend rehearsals per role, in Concord MA.
Professional Level Dancers: Limited stipends are available for some dancers of professional level.
Regional Cast Auditions
Separate regional Auditions are held for performances in the different cities of the tour.
Littleton MA - Friday Sept. 23; Worcester MA – Sunday Sept. 25; Andover MA – TBA; Fall River/New Bedford – TBA; Needham/Sudbury/Wayland – Thursday, Oct. 1 at 3:00 pm, Wayland, MA – Thursday, Oct. 1 at 4:00 pm.
Regional Cast Rehearsals/Performances: Regional casts perform in one city only and rehearse locally once weekly: in Andover & Worcester on Tuesday; in Littleton & Needham/Sudbury on Saturday; others TBA.
The Nutcracker Ballet: The ballet takes the audience on a magical journey with Clara and her Nutcracker Prince as they travel from a traditional 19th century Christmas party through a fantastic battle of toy soldiers and giant mice led by a menacing Rat King who battles the valiant Nutcracker Prince. The journey continues through the ethereal kingdom of Snow, finally arriving in the Land of the Sugarplum Fairy where sweets from all lands come to life and dance in Clara’s honor.
The Production: Dance Prism’s “The Nutcracker” is a fully staged and executed professional ballet production featuring a cast of 140 dancers. The cast of professional and student dancers come from as many as six states to perform in the production. The production features lively choreography, hundreds of colorful costumes, and scenery that includes a miraculous Christmas tree that grows before your eyes, falling snow, and a sleigh drawn by white reindeer.
Following the performance, young audience members are invited to meet Clara and the Nutcracker Prince.
