Our tour meets at the commuter rail station just south of downtown for a group ride that take us through historic Newburyport, along the salt marsh to Plum Island, and through small villages and forests to the Merrimack River. Rides are on Newburyport's three bicycle paths and on quiet safe roads.

Dates: Most Fridays at 9:30 am, and alternating Sundays at 10:30 am (weather permittin), beginnning May21, 2010 as posted on our Bike New England Tour Calendar at http://www.bikenewengland.com/calendar.html. Pace: We ride as a group at an intermediate pace taking frequent tops for scenery. Participants must be physically fit and capable of riding a full or half day ride at an average speed of 11 -12 mph. (You must be covered by health insurance and will be asked to sign a liability waiver).

Options: Half day includes an 18 mile ride through the Newburyport historic district and out to Plum Island, followed by a downtown lunch break The price is $25 per person. The full day tour continues along quiet forested roads for a scenic ride along the Merrimack River, and back through the Great Salt Marsh for an additional 22 miles.--a total of 40 miles for the day. The full day price is $40 per person.

Bikes: You may use your own road or hybrid bicycle if in good working condition. Mountain bikes are generally slower and not recommended unless you are a strong cyclist.

Rentals: Schwinn and Jamis Coda road bikes with straight handlebars are available for rent with our day tours, $30 for the day.. Helmets are available, although it is recommended that you bring your own.
