The Kakapo parrot looks like a cross between a Dr. Seuss character and a stuffed plush toy. It really is a giant, flightless bird covered in honey-scened feathers. Fewer than 90 kakapo were alive when Ms. Montgomery made her research trip to New Zealand to study this special birds. Books available for purchase. Ms. Montgomery also wrote the popular adult book, Birdology.
