An evening with Holocaust survivor and author ELA WEISSBERGER
Ela Weissberger will speak about her experiences as a young Jewish girl coming of age in 1940’s Czechoslovakia as a prisoner in the Terezin concentration camp, Hitler’s “Model Ghetto.” Ela was chosen to play the role of the cat in Hans Krása’s children’s opera, Brundibár, performed over fifty times by the children of Terezin.
Ms. Weissberger’s insightful and poignant family presentation will set the stage for the Cantata Singers’ Chamber Series performances of Brundibár on April 23 & 24. (For more information on these performances, please call 617-868-5885 or visit www.cantatasingers.org.) Ela will also sign copies of her new book, The Cat with the Yellow Star: Coming of Age in Terezin (Holiday House, 2006), which will be available for sale at the talk.
