The Newton Mayor's office for Cultural Affairs is hosting the first ever staged marathon reading of the book 'Wonder' by R.J. Palacio.

It is the story of an ordinary 10-year-old boy, born with an extraordinary face and his experiences trying to enter a mainstream school in the 5th grade.

'Wonder' explores themes of bullying, empathy, kindness and ultimately acceptance.

The public is invited to the reading or any part of it.

Admission is free, please bring a non-perishable food item for the Newton Food Pantries.

Each chapter will be read by a different group.

The 55 readers are business and community leaders and local educators.

In addition to the readers, there is a cast acting out parts of the book.

The part of Auggie's parents is played by the actor's own parents.

The best friend's mother and brother are played by the actor's own mother and brother.

The Principal is played by a retired principal, the drama teacher by a drama teacher, and the part of the family dog by...yes, the family dog!
