Young writers attending the camp will become more successful readers and writers by:
-engaging with fiction, essays, poetry, and plays
-taking field trips to literary sites in the city of Boston such as the Boston Public Library, The Museum of Fine Arts, the Boston Globe, and the Longfellow House
-participating in writing workshops led by Wheelock faculty and guest lecturers
-creating visual literary forms like collage, erasure, and graphic novels experimenting with bookmaking and paper circuitry
-reading and writing about the world and themselves
Write Now @ Wheelock Summer CampCampers will use creative writing practices to investigate the 'world within the world,' the universe that lies beneath the surface of things.
They will read and write about math, science, art, history, the natural world, their environment, and their personal lives.
They will also reflect on the effect writing, especially creative writing, has on their local, national, and global communities.
