She grew up in Wakefield, Mass., an only child who made friends with books at a young age, both out of necessity and genuine enjoyment.
She will be visiting to talk about her coming of age story, The Clothes That Make You, set in the 1960s.
The book centers on a feisty civil rights activist named Sam, who dresses like a boy, prefers to date girls, and is defiantly unapologetic about her differences.
It sheds light on issues that are still very much part of today's society.
Published in 2017, The Clothes That Make You is Kilroy's second novel.
Kilroy's first novel is The Vitruvian Heir, a dystopian novel that has been compared both to George Orwell's 1984 and Margaret Atwood's A Handmaid's Tale.
