Another beloved storybook character is coming to The Children¹s Museum of Portsmouth as part of the Books Alive series sponsored by Irving Oil.

Corduroy, the personable bear featured in a series of books by author Don Freeman, will visit The Children¹s Museum on Saturday, May 12, 2007 from 10:00am to 12:00noon. Throughout the morning, museum staff members will be reading a variety of Corduroy books aloud for visitors, and Corduroy will make periodic appearances to greet children and pose for photos. Children are also invited to participate in creative activities inspired by Corduroy¹s tales in the museum's Project Area.

Corduroy¹s visit is included in the museum¹s regular price of admission ($6 for adults & children, $5 for seniors, free for museum members and children under age 1).

Past Books Alive events have featured Curious George, Clifford, Madeline and Stella Luna. Curious George¹s appearance in March set an all-time museum visitor record. Due to the very positive reaction to this first year of programming, the Books Alive children¹s literacy series will continue with new book character visits in the fall.

The Children¹s Museum of Portsmouth is one of the region¹s premier attractions for families with children of all ages. The museum offers a range of informal learning opportunities in the areas of science, art, music, math, and more. Most of the museum¹s exhibits have been designed and created by the staff in conjunction with local artisans, and all are based on important developmental and educational principles. In addition to its on-site programming, The Children¹s Museum also brings authentic museum experiences to children throughout New Hampshire via the award-winning Museum To You program, and currently provides afterschool learning activities in twelve 21st Century Learner sites in Nashua, Manchester, Winchester, and Hillsboro-Deering schools.
