Set dancing is a popular form of traditional Irish social dancing. In this class we will learn traditional sets from different regions in Ireland. We’ll focus on understanding the basic elements used in sets and the footwork and body movements for different rhythms (reels, jigs, polkas, hornpipes). Most importantly, this will be a lively and fun introduction to this joyful, percussive, social tradition! It will also enable students to get out and dance confidently at local ceilis and other dance events.
Dates: 12 classes starting Saturday Sept. 26, 10:00-11:15am.
Location: Green Street Studios in Central Square, Studio 3,
185 Green St, Cambridge, MA.
Cost: $120
What to wear: Leather-soled shoes, comfortable clothing

Jackie O’Riley began set dancing in her late teens in the Boston area, and learned from many of the local dancers. Since then she has developed a deep passion for this community tradition and has been seeking out set dancing across Ireland and the US, attending workshops, festivals, and ceilis. She is also a step dancer and performer currently studying with Kieran Jordan.
