Radio City Christmas Spectacular w/ the Rockettes
Through this multi-faceted production, the Radio City Rockettes will dance their way through an awe-inspiring journey with brand new scenes, an array of glamorous new costumes, energetic choral singers, dramatic lighting effects and a 50 foot LED screen which will enhance breathtaking new imagery.
The Christmas Spectacular will run at the Wang Theatre from December 2 – 28, 2011 and tickets are on-sale Wednesday, May 25, 2011 at 10am.
“The Radio City Christmas Spectacular is the #1 live holiday production in the world and has been a cherished part of holiday family traditions for generations.” said Don Simpson, executive vice president, Productions, MSG Entertainment. “We are thrilled to present this new unparalleled production to the audiences of Boston as they will experience dynamic and compelling new content while still honoring the traditions steeped in the Christmas Spectacular that have entertained our fans for more than 79 years.”
Both new scenes and fan favorites will be enhanced by a state of the art 50-foot LED screen as this technology transports the audience from a wintry landscape to Times Square to Santa’s Workshop right before their very eyes. The vibrant new sets and breathtaking special effects will allow families to connect with both the intimacy and grandness of the Christmas Spectacular. This year’s show will hit the road with nearly 20 trucks, making this the biggest production of the Christmas Spectacular to play in a theatrical setting. From the moment guests settle into their seats, they will be immersed in a whirlwind of Christmas spirit.
Along with re-imagined Rockette favorites, including the “12 Days of Christmas,” the high-energy tap-infused number, the Rockettes will move this year’s new production forward as they showcase their signature precision dance style and debut some of the most challenging and dynamic Rockette numbers that have ever been conceived.
In a brand new scene, “New York at Christmas,” the Rockettes will board a lifelike double-decker tour bus taking audiences on a guided tour through the streets of New York City. This new scene includes show stopping choreography coupled with the landscape of iconic New York City holiday landmarks and culminates in the crossroads of the world, Times Square.
Santa Claus will take center stage in two magical new scenes: “Magic is There” as Santa takes two young brothers on a journey to the North Pole and “Here Comes Santa Claus” revealing how Santa can be in multiple places at once. These scenic and heartwarming moments highlight the true meaning of Christmas in a way that only Santa himself can convey.
A new Rockette finale will honor and celebrate the stars of the Christmas Spectacular featuring dazzling new costumes and choreography. The Rockettes deliver the audience a “Christmas card” inspired greeting; a film giving an intriguing retrospective look at the Christmas Spectacular throughout the past 79 years showcasing what has made this beloved production a holiday tradition for millions. The Rockettes will sparkle from the stage in the finale performance “Let Christmas Shine,” as each Rockette costume is crystallized with more than 3,000 crystals. Before the curtain falls, audiences will have the opportunity to lend their voices alongside a six-person choir known as the “Radio City Singers”, in an energetic rendition of “Joy to the World” that will lift their spirits and undoubtedly bring everyone to their feet.
Traditional cherished numbers such as “Parade of the Wooden Soldiers,” which continues to set the standard as the signature Rockette number for precision performance, and “The Living Nativity” which both have been performed since the Christmas Spectacular’s inception in 1933, still remain a vital part of the show’s core.
In 2010, the Christmas Spectacular was enjoyed by nearly two million people. In its 17-year combined history outside of New York, as well as the production at Radio City Music Hall, the show has played to more than 71 million people. The Christmas Spectacular continues to create memories that audiences have come to treasure and this year will mark an all new Spectacular experience for Boston.

Our kids loved it
Our kids (ages 6 & 8) both absolutely loved this show. The Rockettes really know how to put on an amazing show. I hope that this show comes back to Boston every year - this will definitely be a new holiday tradition for us if it does. Wonderful
This year's production was so much fun - the addition of the double decker bus scene was spectacular - it really made you feel like you were riding down the streets of New York City. Our whole family enjoyed this show start to finish. At one point, my 10 year old daughter leaned over to me and whispered - 'mom - this is amazing!'. The neverending Santas scene was also quite magical. This show really is the perfect way to 'kick' off (ha - had to say it) the holiday season. RELATED LINKS | ↑ top |
