What The Dickens
The CYDP original production re-imagines the 1843 Dickens classic with a female, briefcase-toting “Ebeneeza Scrooge” in a present-day, urban musical dance setting that features tap, modern dance, hip hop, ballet, and Indian dance.
Ebeneeza’s journey from miser to philanthropist is invigorated by a cast that includes CYDP participants alongside Boston dance professionals, including tapper Ryan Casey as Bob Cratchit.
CYDP students Ajani Martin-Abascal and Alanna Logan perform haunting solos as the Ghost of Christmas Past and the Ghost of Christmas Future.
Playing the role of the Ghost of Christmas Present, guest dancer Ilina Shah of Chhandika brings the rich, classical movements of Kathak, a North Indian dance form.
Java Velez ignites the stage with his popping skills in his debut as Jacob Marley, and Jayme Thornell-Latorella once again brings bite and warmth as Ebeneeza Scrooge.
The production runs from December 18th – December 20th at Boston University Dance Theater, 915 Commonwealth Ave., Boston.
Performances are Friday at 7:00 pm, Saturday at 2:00 pm & 7:00 pm, and Sunday at 2pm.
Tickets are $25-$30.
