In her hands, images of familiar subjects – forests, flowers, diving hawks, and rolling landscapes – evoke discovery, impermanence, and distant memory. “Transient World” runs from February 23rd through April 25th; an artist’s reception will be held on Sunday, March 15th from 2 to 5 PM. Attendance is free to both the exhibit and the reception; both are open to the public.

“Transient World” artwork will be available for sale, and 15% of the sales proceeds will be donated to The Nature Connection (formerly Animals As Intermediaries; www.nature-connection.org), a nonprofit whose mission is to bring animal and nature programs to people with disabilities, at-risk youth and elders.

By imposing assertive lines and bold colors onto the vernacular of nature photography, Forbes invests a painterly energy and motion into her images. Her vibrant “Origins I” (2007) will astonish viewers, with its flotilla of lollipop-leaves jostling on an undulating pond. A dreamlike quality infuses several other “Transient World” works, creating a surrealist aura. “Shadows on Rocks” (2007) showcases this side of Forbes’ vision; in this work, an oversized wooden ladder throws dancing shadows across a landscape that evokes David Hockney’s studies of suburban Southern California, awash in mannerist shades of orange, pink and blue.

Indeed, Forbes cites her personal travel as the source for many of her compositions. “My paintings frequently come from a remembered vision of the natural world,” she explains, “recognizable forms and the open spaces between them.” Tally Forbes studied Art History at Brown University, and has recently exhibited her works at Thos. Moser Showroom in Boston, the DeCordova Museum Education Gallery, Concord Art Association, Canvas Fine Arts Gallery, and Atelier 10 in Acton and Maynard respectively.
