The Gallery at Dunia will exhibit 'Blobs, Bugs, and Bones' from October 26 through January 9, and host a reception for the artist on Sunday, November 15 from 2 to 5 PM. All are welcome, and admission is free.
Fifteen percent of the sales proceeds from 'Blobs' artwork will be donated to climbing poeTree (www.climbingpoetree.com), the brainchild of Alixa Garcia and Naima Penniman, a pair of poets, performers, printmakers, dancers, muralists and designers who have set out to use their many gifts as a tool for popular education, community organizing, and personal transformation.
Colleen Pearce's images can mesmerize, forging new perspectives of a natural world that often exists just beyond our consciousness. In Tree with 3 Windows (2009) Pearce modulates her somber compositions with canvas patches - boughs and branches seem suspended in multiple dimensions - disrupting the illusion of perspective . Her vibrant Night Moth (2008), by contrast, radiates with a peacock-like vanity. Deep Sea Jelly (2009) shimmers with light and motion, while Flat Top Jelly (2009) conveys the textbook authenticity of a John James Audubon painting.
