Her “Three Blind Mice” series was created in the hopes of enlightening people by helping them to understand that in spite of handicaps, life is to be lived and discovered with joy, abandonment and fearlessness. Leslie is a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and has a shop on ETSY.com.Artist's Statement“ I must create a system or be enslaved by another mans; I will not reason and compare: my business is to create. “ ~William Blake
In High School, my favorite art teacher once told me this: “The difference between a painting and a photograph is that a painting tells a story and a photo captures a moment in time.” I am sure that this statement can be debated, but the idea of telling a story or several stories is intriguing to me. In every painting I try to illustrate several story-lines happening at the same time, so the viewer is always discovering something new each time they look at the painting.
My process is always changing and I am currently using Acrylic paint as my primary medium. My family, friends, pets, wildlife and my community are my constant and source of creative inspiration. My hope is that when children and adults look at my work, they will find themselves discovering stories within stories, identification with all the characters and maybe have a giggle or two in the process.
