The Wenham Museum’s summer featured exhibit will showcase some of the Museums’ most beautiful Gilded Age dresses dating from the 1860’s to the 1890’s. The gallery will display extravagant fashion creations from one of the most extravagant periods in fashion history.

Children can enjoy an elegant dress-up area for themselves and dolls, or try their hands at dress design.

Visitors will see a wide array of fashion styles, everything from the bustle to the development of the dress sleeve. A woman of this time period would change her dresses throughout the day for different occasions; morning visits, afternoon strolls and evening dinners or other special events

Dress-up area is fun

I brought two 10-year-old girls who spent over an hour admiring themselves in kid-sized finery and posing at the three-way mirrors. There was a nice activity that involved bits of fabric to collage your own dress design. I wish there was more kid-friendly info about the actual exhibit.
