Don't miss Americans in Paris, 1860-1900 at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA) through September 24. Nearly 100,000 visitors have flocked to see John Singer Sargent's scandalous portrait of 'Madame X,' as well as masterpieces by Mary Cassatt and Winslow Homer.

Due to a prior commitment, 'Whistler's Mother' will only be in Boston through Monday, September 18.

Some of America’s finest late 19th-century masterpieces will go on view at the MFA when Americans in Paris, 1860–1900 makes its U.S. debut. With exceptional loans from Europe and the United States, prominent artists featured in the exhibition include James McNeill Whistler, John Singer Sargent, Mary Cassatt, and Winslow Homer.

This international collaboration comprises approximately 100 paintings, many seen together for the first time, including iconic works such as Whistler’s Arrangement in Grey and Black, No 1: Portrait of the Artist’s Mother (1871, Musée d’Orsay, Paris)—otherwise known as “Whistler’s Mother”—which, rarely shown in the United States, has not been seen in Boston since 1983; Sargent’s infamous Madame X (Madame Pierre Gautreau) (1884, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York); the impressionist experiments of Mary Cassatt, such as Little Girl in a Blue Armchair (1878, National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC); and Homer’s haunting A Summer Night (1891, Musée d’Orsay, Paris).
