Jacob Lawrence: The Legend of John Brown
Works explore the life of the controversial abolitionist John Brown, part of the historical epics Lawrence produced throughout the 1930s and 1940s focusing on heroic 19th century figures as well as the Great Migration of the early 20th century.
The powerful narrative conveyed in Lawrence’s series pays homage to an African-American legacy of storytelling as a potent vehicle to relay historical events.
