New England Quilt Museum: Quilt Japan
For more than 40 years, the Japanese Handicraft Instructors' Association (JHIA) has been promoting handicraft in Japan by educating and training instructors in a variety of specialties.
The JHIA boasts 6,000 quilters among its 12,000 members.
Their biannual Quilt Nihon Exhibition is the largest international quilting contest in Japan.
The 11th competition drew 377 quilt entries from 15 countries.
Judging took place in November 2011, and 75 quilts in both traditional and contemporary categories were selected for display at the Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum in 2012.
The best of those will be featured in this traveling exhibition.
Other U.S.
destinations were the National Quilt Museum and the Wisconsin Museum of Quilts and Fiber Arts.
