New Bedford has been ranked the 7th most artistic city in America by Atlantic Monthly Magazine, and nowhere is this accolade more evident than in the vibrant arts community of Hatch Street Studios, now home to more than 50 artists and designers.
To celebrate the upcoming holiday season, this creative group will host an exciting two-day open studios event, where visitors are invited to tour the artists’ studios, watch demonstrations, and purchase unique gifts and fine art in a setting steeped in architectural history.
Available artworks will include paintings, prints, photographs, textile art, sculpture, jewelry, fine furniture and glass, as well as aerial performance art.
On Saturday, November 19, local musician Gregg Harper will perform live, while throughout the weekend, food vendors will be on site offering a variety of tempting fare to satisfy the appetite for good eats as well as good art.
Hatch Street Studios provides an environment for artists to produce creative works and contribute to the city of New Bedford's cultural life.
The studios are located in the heart of the historic Nashawena Mill District in New Bedford’s North End.
Once revered as one of the most productive textile mills in Southcoast Massachusetts, the building was recently purchased by local businessman Jeff Glassman and has undergone substantial renovations including new studio build-outs.
These improvements have attracted more artists to the building, helping to diversify and unite this dynamic and robust community.
