Fauna as Folk, Friendly Animals Rendered Colorfully in Wood
The exhibit runs from June 12 through August 4; a reception will be held in celebration of the artist and her art on Sunday, June 24, from 2 to 5 PM. Ten percent of the proceeds from the sale of Frecha's art will benefit Animals as Intermediaries (www.aai-nature.org), a nonprofit dedicated to supporting the human spirit by offering and building connections between people and the natural world.
Cortni Frecha's talents are diverse, her tastes eclectic. Through her studio, Arrow Maker Design (www.arrowmaker.org), Frecha offers graphic design and illustration services, as well as commissioned art in fiber and wood. While pursuing a degree in computer science, Frecha spent time learning the finer points of theater set design. Among her media are needlepoint, silk screen, block printing, batik, Web design and typography. Frecha is also an accomplished carpenter, a gardener, and a devotee of folk dancing. She lives in Stow, MA, in the dependable companionship of her pet llamas, goats and chickens.
'The 1960s and 1970s were a fertile time for arts and crafts,' Frecha reflected. 'I spent many happy hours growing up making art of one kind or another.'
Dunia is located at 43 Nason Street in downtown Maynard. Cortni Frecha's animal art will be available for viewing during store hours, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 AM to 6 PM, except for Thursday, when the store stays open until 8 PM.
